It's been over a year since the Reaper has run the quarter mile. Since El Nino decided to be nice to us here in CA, Charles and I decided to make a trip out to the strip. Former list member Rik Mentz also met us at Sears Point Raceway. Charles ran his 69 Mach1, and since it's a Ford and not a Monte, I won't report anything more than he ran faster than last year... ;-)

On the way up there I noticed a clean white 87 SS coming up from behind in the fast lane. I slowed down to check it out, but as soon as I slowed down, so did the white SS... All I wanted to do was check it out, really, honestly.. ;-) Anyway the car finally came up to the Reaper and it was an older lady, and she was checking out the Reaper. I smiled and waved, she kinda smiled, blushed, and looked straight ahead.. ;-)

At the track while waiting for Tech inspection, a white 84 pulled up. This thing sounded mean! As it drove by, you could just hear the gear drive whine under the rumble of the Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers and Flowmaster 2.5" SS exhaust. I went over to talk to the owner and the owner was a female. Cool, a gal that appreciates fast cars, and SS's to boot. She told me that her cousin works at Flowmaster and that she got the exhaust from him. She popped the hood opened and there was a 355 with a torker manifold, holly 750, a moroso electric water pump, and an electric fan. All of the emissions were removed, as well as the air conditioner. She had a 10 bolt rear end with 4.10 gears and BFG drag radials. Oh yeah, she was running 12.5:1 compression. When she finally went down the track, I was envious of the Nascar like soundemitting from the car. Her best time was a 13.15et @ 105mph. Unfortunately she doesn't have internet access, but I gave her one of my Monte List cards anyways.

The guy that I met last year with the black 87 areocoupe was there also. He came with M/T ET street DOT drag slicks. He was running late, so he only got 1 time run and then was broke out of his dial in by .03 seconds in the first heat. He's currently number one in bracket point standings at Sears Point. It was his first time running on the M/T's so he wasn't to dialed in yet. He ran a 14.87et @ 95mph. Using the BFG drag radials he was running consistent 14.5's.

Now.. to the Reaper. No I still haven't purchased some DOT's, and damn... I sure wish I did... I really wanted to dip into the low 13's, but the Monte gods just wouldn't allow it. (at least not on street radials).. ;-)

My first pass was against a 69 Pontiac Firebird (15.02@88.6)

RT: .618
60ft: tower wasn't recording it yet.. :-(
ET: 13.835
MPH: 100.731

cool, .02 faster than last year....

Second pass, against same Firebird (15.02@88.60)

RT: .637
60ft: 2.048
ET: 13.775
MPH: 100.194

first bracket race, against late 80's early 90's Stang' (14.9@92.53)

RT: .554
60ft: 2.06
ET: 13.647
MPH: 100.547

slowly dropping the ET's... ;-)

Final run of the evening, against 67' mustang fastback (13.11@106)

RT: .491 (doh! redlight)
60ft: 2.061
ET: 13.577
MPH: 101.295

Pretty weird that he ran a 13.11, and I still beat him across the line...

The gal with the 84'SS was really upset at herself for hacking up her SS. Especially after I went down the track a couple of times. I was only a few tenths behind her, and still had all of my emissions stuff, as well as all of the power accessories, and air conditioning.

We were talking to one of the regulars and he mentioned that Sacramento Raceway ran a test and tune on Fridays... Well guess where Charles and I went on Friday 5/22... ;-) From the San Jose area, Sears is about 1.5 hours away, and Sacramento Raceway is about 2 hours away. I should'a mentioned that we were going to Sacramento, because I beleive that there are at least two list member in that area. Cheryl and someone else.... I'll let ya know next time... ;-)

Well to make a long story short, I made 10 runs total on friday. A few of them were useless because there were these annoying 4 cylinders dragging there front and rear tires over the water and onto the tarmac.

I was running consistent 2.0X 60ft times when there wasn't a four banger in front of me. My best time of the night was

RT: .617
60ft: 2.081
ET: 13.589
MPH: 102.213

Pretty close to the Sears Point time, but with an additional 1 mph.

Oh yeah, Sacramento also gives 1/8 mile times, my best was:

ET: 8.752
MPH: 80.900

I guess that I'm going to have to get some of those DOT slicks so that I can get into the low 13's. One guy at the track also recommended that I lower the shift points. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the times that I clicked off in this outing... ;-)
